Employees - what do they really, really want?
It’s not a question we wanted to wait around to find the answer to. As employee benefits advisors to some of the world’s largest hospitality and leisure companies, we didn’t feel comfortable with the “we have a hunch…” approach. What is it they say… “you don’t know what you don’t know until you know it” (We know…we also think that sounds like the title of an 80s rock ballad) but it’s true.
How can we advise anyone on anything unless we “know it”? We have over 10 years of experience (and not one unhappy client) but there comes a time when you realise the world has changed a little bit more, and that we need to go out there and do a bit of a health check on things.
So we went out, and found out and now we know, and the results will make you sit up a little (a lot in fact) – it won’t be what you were expecting.
This is the stuff that employees really, really want.
We asked and they told us. It’s here, the results, the research – the evidence and what a great place to be to have the foundation of knowledge to input to these first stages of building an employee benefits programme. There is no point in putting your investment into an employee benefits programme that doesn’t return value to your business, and the only way you’re ever going to get a return on your investment is by offering your employees the benefits that float their boat.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get. We asked, we got and it’s here for you to learn from and share far and wide.
The golden nuggets we found?
-
71% of employees value benefits highly when choosing where to work
-
More than 41% of UK employees are more concerned with buying a house than saving for the future
-
71% of employees would like their employers to give them a pot of money for their employee benefits
-
Respondents were asked to create a benefits package for a workplace in 2035 – pensions contributions were rated third, retirement planning placed third and a baby bonus came out first place
-
The vast majority of employees (81%) believe it is the employer’s responsibility to explain how they an get the most from their employee benefits package.
-
Employees would like to see employers offering benefits such as pet insurance, marriage bonuses, financial support for further education and 20% entrepreneur time
-
24% of employees would like to be reimbursed for their degrees
-
82% of employees believe that benefits packages should change as their personal priorities do.
And there’s a whole lot more of the ‘sit up and listen’ stuff…The conversation on employee benefits is just beginning.
