1. Half Of Managers Are Stressed All Or Most Of The Time

We learned this week, thanks to research from Axa, that 48% of people in managerial positions are stressed “all or most of the time.”

That is a lot higher than for non-managerial employees who were 23% stressed.

 

2. We Now Know What Employers Most Want From Next Government

There is an election coming up – in case you haven’t noticed! – and we now know what it is that employers most want from whoever wins the general election. The most desired help from the new government is to help with wellbeing initiatives, with 19% wanting more action taken on helping employee wellbeing.

 

3. Getting On Well With Colleagues Is What Makes Employees Most Content At Work

Research this week from Barclays has found that “getting on well with colleagues” is the thing that makes employees most happy at work. 26% said this was what made them happiest, while a good work-life balance was the second most popular aspect.

 

4. Internships May Need To Be Paid By Law

While unpaid work experience is illegal, stricter controls on enforcing payment to interns could be a thing of the near future. Campaign Group Intern Aware has been calling for stricter enforcement on rules concerning the need to pay interns as the rules on what counts as an “employee” or “worker” are currently very vague.

Ed Miliband also addressed the issue in a speech last Friday, calling for change and saying: “Putting careers in highly prized jobs – in the arts, media, fashion, finance and law – out of reach for huge numbers of highly able young people. It’s not fair. It’s not right."
