DAM support World Mental Day
2020 has been a tough year for everyone, including those living with Mental Illness. With Lockdown and physical restrictions limiting social contact, reaching out and checking in with one another has never been more important.
Today is World Mental Health Day, a day designed to raise awareness and create lasting change within Mental Health care – a day to come together, educate ourselves, reach out, and speak out.
However, speaking out can sometimes be easier said than done. For many, it can be difficult to know exactly who to turn to – it may be that you feel like you can ask for help, or possibly feel embarrassed talking to a close family/friend/employer about such personal matters.
One alternative option that you may wish to consider is the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), which is an employee benefit programme offered by many employers.
EAPs generally include assessment, short-term counselling and referral services for employees and their immediate family, and can offer help surrounding a variety of issues both in and out of the workplace, including Mental Health services and assistance with personal, family and work issues.
Importantly, EAPs are confidential and can provide support for issues that are not limited to just work.
Speak to your employer to find out more about this valuable benefit.
